FASTag Annual Pass – From this Independence Day, 15th August, frequent highway travellers in India will get a smoother and more cost-effective way to commute. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is introducing the FASTag Annual Pass a one-time payment plan that covers 200 toll trips or one full year of travel, whichever comes first. This initiative is aimed at reducing repeated online recharges, cutting down wait times at toll plazas, and offering significant savings for private vehicle owners who frequently drive on national highways.
Annual FASTag Rolling Out
What is the FASTag Annual Pass – The FASTag Annual Pass is a new payment solution for private cars, jeeps, and vans. For a one-time fee of ₹3,000, vehicle owners can enjoy up to 200 toll crossings or 12 months of travel on NHAI-managed national highways and expressways.
The plan was announced earlier this year by Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, with the goal of simplifying toll payment for regular highway commuters and addressing the inconvenience caused by toll plazas placed close to each other.
The launch date of 15th August 2025 coincides with India’s Independence Day celebrations, symbolising freedom from the hassle of repeated toll recharges. NHAI aims to expand similar prepaid schemes for commercial vehicles in the future. Authorities are also testing AI-powered toll monitoring to further reduce congestion and fraud.
Key Highlights
- Launch Date: 15th August
- Eligible Vehicles: Non-commercial private vehicles (cars, jeeps, vans)
- Cost: ₹3,000 (one-time)
- Validity: 200 trips or 1 year (whichever comes first)

How the Pass Works
The pass is linked to your active FASTag account and registered vehicle number. It will automatically deduct tolls until your 200-trip limit is reached or until one year passes from the purchase date whichever occurs first.
Importantly, it will not work on state highways or municipal roads, even if they have toll plazas (for example, Mumbai–Pune Expressway or Agra–Lucknow Expressway).
Benefits of the FASTag Annual Pass
You have need to pay once and travel without worrying about low FASTag balance. Faster processing at toll booths means less time spent waiting in queues.
With prepaid trips, there’s less chance of deduction errors or insufficient balance alerts. Ideal for daily or weekly commuters on the same highway route.

This is especially beneficial for:
- Office workers travelling between cities
- Families visiting relatives frequently
- Highway commuters living in the suburbs
